This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 85%. (I'm a bot)
PARIS - Paris police and store owners are bracing for new violence at protests Saturday, despite President Emmanuel Macron's surrender over a fuel tax hike that unleashed weeks of unrest.
Macron on Wednesday agreed to abandon the fuel tax hike, but protesters' demands have now expanded to other issues.
Police have come under criticism for failing to prevent damage to the Arc de Triomphe and stores along the famed Champs-Elysees in central Paris, as well as for violence against protesters.
No one knows how to riot like the French can. Macron let the genie out of the bottle, he had better be ready to quietly end his political career. If he capitulates further, he loses credibility, if he doesn't then riots could last longer. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Will the US and UK issue travel bans like they often do for other countries?
I like how Macaroni has received nothing but positive posts on Reddit since his election and the virtue signaling headlines about green initiatives, “gotchas” against Trump and protection of whatever didnt stop until these riots started. You wouldve thought France is a renewable energy, gender equal, 35-hour-workweek, no-emails-after-5pm paradise a month ago.
How many old ladies must die at the hands of the French police before we get bidets in all of the public restrooms. That's what this is about, right?
