With enough computing power, and sufficiently advanced A.I. (think in maybe 5 years?) this concept could merge with video game style tech to allow each of us to have a totally unique adventure or viewing experience. Maybe there will be limits, like with map boundaries in a current video game, and plot deviation boundaries too. The A.I. would be "free" to interact with the participants' input as it sees fit within set bounds. It'll be fun seeing this technology evolve, and checking out different attempts to configure something commercially popular. Existing narrative style entertainment will probably still exist for those of us too lazy to "participate" in the plot. This could be a major fork in entertainment creating a new genre.
I really hope they make a horror movie where if you choose "bitch, don't go in that creepy unlit basement!" it just ends in like 5 minutes with nothing happening to anyone.
The idea of an interactive cinema presentation is very interesting, however I can only imagine that production costs would be prohibitive to many smaller ideas. Perhaps the advancement of CGI will provide more affordable options for that.
Either which way this all goes, this only reminds me a scene from Futurama; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1F4OduqrtQ
Feels like being "interactive", Netflix could actually include virtual reality to this choose your own adventure shows. Do you think it could be possible?
WTH?? Is Netflix spying on me 'cause I just said they ought to do this a few weeks ago!!
