Animation of traffic flow originating from the East and West ends of Montreal. Data processed in Python using Matplotlib to generate 2D geospatial density time-series shown here previously. I followed up on my previous work to specify the 7 East-most and 7 West-most boroughs and municipalities on the island, to create a 2 color version. While the 3D version isn't entirely necessary, some density information was lost when switching from grayscale to color, and it served a larger purpose of testing how the representation would appear in a physical 3D representation. If you don't like the Gif resolution, you can see the HD version here.
Links to the source code (FIJI macro) and original IPython/Jupyter notebooks used to make this visual are on my instructional blog.
The 3D representation originally inspired by this visualization of population density in Europe by Topi Tjukanov
