I love how this exact post got linked twice at the same time, one quoting the Symmetra line, the other quoting the Mei one!
I largely agree. The most glaring problem that needs addressing is her ult. It makes zero sense that you can throw it and it'll cancel if you die.
Agreed. Glad they think Sym needs more than a little work, but less than a rework.
Gimme ten darts and a refill with cryo and I'm good.
The alternate fire needing 20 instead of 25 ammo is a great step in the right direction
E: even if this is reversed and was accidentally released to the live version. This still proves that they're working on it and it will definitely come to PTR
Someone a while back suggested letting allies see where Mei is aiming her wall. It'd be an amazing improvement in QoL to be able to accurately show where you intend to put your wall as Mei so your allies can react accordingly. It'd still be a very minor improvement, arguably not even a buff, but a great improvement to get teamwork potential.
[BLIZZARD] Jeff Kaplan posted on 02/12/2018 08:26 PM:
We disagree that Mei needs a major rework. We are trying some improvements to her but they are not major.
Symmetra will require more work to get into a better place and therefore take longer to address.
Beep boop. Can't Stop, Won't Stop!

Makes sense. Mei is usually pretty decent as is and doesn't seem to need much of a boost.
How about fixing some bugs too... Moiras healing orb goes right through meis wall....
Well there goes my wish for Mei to be able to fly.
As someone who plays a lot of Mei, I absolutely agree. Her kit is devastating if used correctly, and if you have the backup from solid damage, she can fit into a lot of team comps.
The best suggestion I heard so far was just a slight buff in which they make an icicle cost 20, as opposed to 25. Give her ten shots.
She’s a fantastic hero as it is.
Good. Her kit is fun
Reminder: Jeff and other Blizzard staff also said Symmetra and Mercy didn't need "major" reworks before, too, but look what eventually happened to Mercy, and Symmetra is looking at her second round of adjustment.
They also said they didn't think there was any way to make CTF work at all in OW, but, uh....
So, y'know. When someone from Blizzard says something does/doesn't need a big shift or can/can't be done, remember to never take that as an absolutely literal, final say on the matter.
No rework is needed. Her kit is good, but it needs some adjustments.
Fix her bugs
Allow her left click slow down vertical movement.
Reload her gun slowly during iceblock.
They need to adjust her ultimate so it's not so easy for the majority of heroes to escape from.
Symmetra does need a total rework so she is viable on both offense and defense.
I can see why Mei players want buffs, she's too niche right now, to the point where most people would rather just run generalists even when Mei would be a good pick.
On the other hand, I'm always afraid when any dev try to bring more niche heroes into the meta.
The easiest way to do it is to make her more generalist, which takes away from having strong and unique class identities in a class-based game.
I don't really want Soldier but with an eyepatch, Soldier but with a parka, Soldier but with a dress.
I love Soldier, but I don't everyone to be Soldier, that's boring.
For me, the biggest issue with Mei is her kit is 100% anti-mobility, but can almost never stop the mobility-focused characters. Like you can't freeze characters that can fly up and over you, you can't wall off characters as some can literally walk up your wall (which I don't get why this doesn't apply a freeze effect... its pretty dumb and just encourages people to completely ignore / not respect the wall), and as a result you end up having to play akwardly as an anti-tank character, which is only really effective on a rein who isn't in a position where he can swing. It's just weird gameplay that feels 100% harder to effectively use than say, just swapping to a reaper and filling a lot of the same front-line / close-range / tank harasser role, better and easier.
I feel all of the mobility abilities they disable when you pick up the flag in CTF, should also be disabled THE MOMENT you have frost on you, and stay disabled until either the frost is off, or you unfreeze (if fully frozen). This would also give some much needed help to her ult, which half the time people easily escape after it's already ticked on them for 3-4 ticks (what idiot designed this?).
Another way to alter the frost abilities might be to remove "frozen" targets outside of the ult, and instead only create an extreme "snare", so you could keep someone perpetually slowed while gunning them with the frost, but but not necessarily turn them into a complete ice-block. This would be a pretty big buff while still giving people opportunities to react instead of making her left click a much-worse version of flashbang -> shoot.
Her ice-wall needs to reach higher and wider, to actually allow proper blocking in chokes and to give the one-and-only team-buff vertical-climbing-ability in the game a bit more utility.
I personally feel her right clicks are fun, and a neat mechanic, but the reality is, in order to keep up, if other things aren't severely buffed, they should instant-fire and then have the current "charge time" treated as a recharge delay. Again, people get pissy about this subject, so I'll reitterate, I THINK CURRENTLY, ITS NEAT... but this is far-and-away the biggest deciding factor in her not being utilized more in reaction-based competitive game modes where it just takes way too long to allow that "reaction" to come to fruition without setting up as a long-range icicle sniper / alternate-version-of-mcree; which brings me to my next point:
If she can only (consistently) effectively use right click after a target is frozen or via medium-to-long-range sniping, the falloff needs to poof, and frozen targets need to either stay frozen longer, or take significantly more damage from icicle shots while frozen. There's so much spike damage in the game this is the least of Overwatch's worries, it'd go a long way into adding some meaningful contributions without forcing her into a singular, very predictable niche game-play style of "freeze -> headshot -> repeat".
I just want her ult to have a more clear graphic of the area it's freezing. It's annoying to think you're out of its range vertically (whether you're flying over it, on a ledge, on stairs) only to be caught by it.
She's just way worse against high mobility heroes which is what dominates the game. Winston, Genji, D.va, Tracer, etc.
She doesn't need a huge rework. But I would like to see them fix her ultimate, and make it look really cool.
I just want her ult to not disintegrate into the air when she dies.
I have 65 hours on mei, and it pisses me off that if you get six people in your blizzard that you might get three of them frozen if you are lucky. The meta changes have not done anything for her, and this change is about seven months late.
Fix her ult, but beyond that they better not touch my bae.
Thank fuck. I was worried about Mei getting butchered like the other Rework targets.
I really hope this means they're gonna cool it with the reworks and focus on straight number changes/minor tweaks from now on.
Easy fix for Sym - when she clicks to place a turret a right click throws the turret like a grenade . It then sticks and deploys like normal. (left click places like normal).
This would allow her to be more aggressive in taking a point or "playing forward" and give her better zoning ability.
Even if Mei’s ult registers, it hardly does anything. Most classes can escape from it. The unlucky few that can’t escape can still survive because the duration is so short. Mei can only get a pick off, before she gets killed by the ones who escaped the ult.
TIL that directing the famous "Truffle Shuffle" scene was so uncomfortable that "The Goonies'" director Richard Donner bought the actor who plays Chunk a gym membership and took a personal interest in his fitness. Jeff Cohen went on to be captain of his high school football and wrestling teams.
TIL Jeff Bezos funded a team that searched the Atlantic Ocean for discarded NASA rockets. By 2013, the team salvaged two rockets. After careful inspection, the team realized they found part of the rockets used to carry Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the moon on Apollo 11.
